War - Take a StandThere was a time in my life where I found history extremely interesting. Now I find it disgusting. In all of history as far as it goes back there is death; And not death by nature, plagues, or old age. It is death by man. We kill each other. Is there no understanding of how we all just want the same thing, we all just want to live in happiness. Nomadic tribes have been fighting since the beginning of time. The Romans mercilessly conquered Europe. Alexander the Great traveled in a murderous rampage across the whole Middle East to India. The acts committed in the first and second world wars are the most nauseating atrocities I have ever read about. How could the Japanese brutally rape their neighbors? How could the Germany make candles of human fat? How could America create and drop a bomb so horrific that people evaporated?
“Prompt and utter destruction."* These are words one president says to another. Not the destruction of a person or a building or even a city. It was the prompt and utter destruction of a whole country. “They may expect a rain of ruin from the air the likes of which has never been seen on this earth”* America was prepared to commit an act absolutely repulsive and unimaginable. They were going to wipe Japan off the map. “it would lead to the total extinction of human civilization.”** What was Albert Einstein thinking when he started his research. Moreover how could the smartest man known to man leave such powerful science in the hands of madmen? So where are we today? Do we feel safe in our homes, in our respected countries? Is it possible that we could live a life without another World War? Today in the news…. Iran has a nuke China is getting stronger on all fronts And The most trigger happy nation in the world is getting nervous….America. I’ve met people from most countries in the world. I’ve shook their hand and looked into their eyes. The youth of today are traveling more than at any other time in history. Globalization isn’t the worst thing that has happened to the world. We can communicate with a language. We can exchange ideas. We have the internet. When you live overseas you almost never see fights. We are happy and patient with each other. We learn to look past our differences and appreciate them. Let me be the first to say that I will stand up against any old, narrow minded, right winged conservative who believes that radical religion, military muscle, and old ideas are the way to handle situations of today. I am the youth of today. And I will make the decisions of tomorrow! * President Truman of the United States of America ** Japanese Emperor Shōwa (Hirohito) Kyle Acierno China TripThis time it took three weeks. The trip started in my backwater home(China)town province of Yunnan. Surrounded by hostile mountains, inhumane jungles, and nomadic tribes; it was and still is a place of great mystery. My male companion(Ryan Wilhelm) and I travelled through 7 provinces, each boasting its own history, food, and secrets. Bizarre minority villages we passed housed great warriors, beautiful flower women, and fire eating youths. The more we travelled the more delusive the scenery became. The mountains began rise out of the ground like ripe rice shoots. Sky scraping rock cities sprouted up in every valley. The craggy, mutilated, quartz formations leaves every passerby with the same feeling, shuang*. The waterfalls fell to creeks, creeks turned it to rivers, and they all went the same direction, to the mighty Yahtze River. One of the biggest rivers in the world and the biggest in Asia, we would follow this river all the way to our final destination. But this wild beast of a river, under the hand of man, is being tamed. The biggest damn in the world was finished this year. The gorges that wall this river will begin to fill and by 2010 the dam will be at full capacity and supply 1/6 of Chinas power. After only months the damage is already beginning to breach the surface. As the water begins to flood the lowlands, mammals are in search on new land. Farmers began to report mountains turning black. Later villages were overrun by millions of field mice. They destroy all crops and now China is out to build a second great wall. This one, yet only three feet high, is also meant to keep away the invaders! The cities along the great river are massive. Every city we stopped at was a replica of the last; massive highways, intersections, overpasses, and bridges. Thumping discos, bustling markets, and overcrowded walkways. And everywhere people. The Chinese race, after a 5000 thousand year breeding campaign, have had great results. There are 34 provinces, 56 minorities and over 1 500 000 000 different faces in the land we call China but they call 'Middle Kingdom'. August 15th, 2:05PM - Shanghai Shanghai has been called so many names by so many people. For me, Shanghai is the future. Shanghai is the biggest city in the biggest country in the world. Everything feels like its moving a million miles an hour. The current of black hair sweeps you through the city like a peony blonde twig. Shanghai takes what you thought was China and mashes it up, throws it in a grinder, pours it in a wine glass and serves it to you in a prestigious 5 star restaurant. Shanghai is the big brother of China who knows everything before you. Everything I thought was wrong. China being a cheap country is suddenly apocryphal. I went to a club last night and paid 11USD for a drink. ( I could get 12 beer in Cobra Club for that price) The Chinese being short is suddenly beguiling. I went to a club last night and felt dwarfed as men and woman danced about me. The Chinese being conservative is suddenly fallible. I went to a club last night with girls in bikinis, ladies with male genitals, and women who loved to scream, 'Whoa Bitch get out the way!' This city has all the lights and all the fights of any other major international city, but its different. Shanghai has woken up. Ici repose un géant endormi, laissez le dormir, car quand il s'éveillera, il étonnera le monde' - 'Here lies a sleeping giant, let him sleep, for when he wakes up, he will shock the world' Napoleon, 1803 *Shuang* The translation for this word is often said as 'awesome'. For me its not awesome, its something different, the only way to explain it is to go the Zhangjiajie and feel it yourself. Kyle Acierno Its unbelizeable!Belize ( Little Africa)
Belize is a small country attached to Mexico and Guatemala. Its population, which is just over 250,000, is almost as diverse as Canada’s. The Mayans once inhabited these lands. The Spanish came in the 1500s. While colonizing they needed help and brought over African slaves. In the 1800s everyone was free again and in the late 1900s the Chinese came and now own many of the businesses. Now the Africans are the most dominant race. They speak a language that is a cross between Spanish and English. Many of them are Rasta Men and hail people like Nelson Mandela, Jimmy Hendrix’s and Martin Luther King. I met medicine men who spoke prophecies in rhyme, women who will say there is no better food than beans and rice, and children who stand on corners and rap. There are creepy crack heads and scamming scoundrels, magical medicine men and astute elders; if there was one thing that amazed me in Belize, it was the people. Crusing around the CaribbeanThe Fat Mexicano
I entered Mexico once from America and once from Belize. The time difference was only a week yet I found a whole different race of people.
On my first trip I encountered a race of people that could barley keep their flaps of fat in their clothes. Women with meter wide asses and no necks would waddle from market to shop. Fat boys would curse their road hogs when they’d choke and die going up hills. Crowds would surround stalls that sent thick puss colored fumes into the air. Typical meal Hotdog cooked in grease, wrapped in bacon and smothered in cheese, topped with greasy onions and a load of condiments. Mmmmm sounds fattening. As awful as it sounds a I still tried it, and yes, you guessed it, I got sick! Caribbean
The Rich and Sexy Mexican On returning to Mexico I stuck to the clubs and beaches. The entrance fees to all clubs were 10 USD and everyone was packed at 2:00AM. I heard barley a word of English spoken as I wondered around trying to find a place to people watch. Women smoked cigarettes and men slammed tequila. Crisp white shirts were the predominant style and there was no sight of ketchup or mustard stains. The rich are rich! They can afford not only a healthy diet but also nice cars, expensive drinks, and vacations to Playa de Carmen. Crusing around the CaribbeanMexico Tall green palm trees, white nude beaches, and baby blue sea’s are just a few things that every gringo anticipates on their flight to Mexico. After weeks of refrigerating in North Americas artic attic all I expected was to be unthawed. We arrived on Christmas day. The little island of Cozmel was encircled by hideous clouds. Refusing to spend out first day in Mexico indoors we headed to the beach for a day full of swimming in caves underwater, snorkeling, dolphin watching, and a soggy beach all to ourselves. The Mexicans are Christian, so although they celebrate Christmas they have a different tradition. As Christmas Day is more for family and friends there is another day for kids. On January 6th anxious children wake up early and receive gifts from Reyes Magos (Magi). Mexico was beautiful. There are amazing temples, miles of beach, and an amazing array of delicious dishes.
